What is next for Lydia Dare, you ask?


Well, over the last year, we have introduced you to our werewolves masquerading as Regency era noblemen. All right, all right – technically they are both of those things. First there was pack alpha Simon Westfield, the Duke of Blackmoor, whose story is told in our debut book, A Certain Wolfish Charm. Next there was his youngest brother Benjamin, the hero of Tall, Dark and Wolfish. Followed by the pair’s middle brother and silver-tongued rogue William in The Wolf Next Door. And finally, out this month, is our reformed villain, lone-werewolf Dashiel Thorpe, the Earl of Brimsworth, in The Taming of the Wolf.

That’s a lot of wolves, right?

Well, if you like vampyres (that’s right, we meant to spell it with a “y”) then you are in for a treat next year. We have expanded our paranormal Regency realm to include those seductive, undead gentlemen as they seemed a natural fit in our world. Not quite sure what that says about us, but there you are.

First up is James Maitland, Baron Kettering in It Happened One Bite, due out in March 2011. James is an Elizabethan era vampyre whose previous two decades could have gone a little better – not that he remembers them.

Then Matthew Halkett, the Earl of Blodswell, the hero of In the Heat of the Bite, in stores June 2011, finally gets his story. We say “finally” because the always-noble Matthew has been around a while – well, ever since the Third Crusade, anyway. For more than six hundred years this knight in shining armor has walked in two worlds – that of the living and that of the undead, not really belonging to either.

And finally Never Been Bit will be out in September 2011. We would tell you tons of interesting details about this particular hero, but we’d rather not. Don’t get us wrong – he is wonderful and we adore him AND we’re certain you will too; but telling you now who he is could be a spoiler for another book and we don’t want to ruin anyone’s fun. So, suffice it to say that the sexy hero of Never Been Bit is one you will fall in love with, if you haven’t already.

So that is what is next for Lydia Dare. And after that….? We think we can spot a trio of wolves on the horizon for 2012. We’ll just have to wait and see!

Writing space is important to a lot of authors, and very individual as well. Since there are two of us who make up Lydia Dare, we thought we’d each tell you a bit about our writing space.


Jodie:

I am SO disorganized. It’s funny, I’m really anal about certain things. I am obsessed with having information on our characters – family trees, photos/drawings of their estates, servants, etc. I am particularly anal about having the perfect name. I’m anal about peerage titles.

But as far as work space goes, I am the epitome of disorganization. Sometimes I write at my day job at a cluttered desk. Sometimes I write on my sectional in my living room. Sometimes I write in the passenger seat of my car, if someone else driving, of course. And sometimes I write in bed. Sometimes there’s TV in the background. Sometimes there’s no light other than slight glow from my laptop.

I am certain I would make a feng shui expert run for the hills screaming. In fact, I’m scared to know what they would say to me. So no one tell them what a disorganized mess I am.

Tammy:

I have to have quiet when I write. No TV. No kids. No pets. No music. As long as I have that, I can write pretty much anywhere. I think I probably write more in my living room than anywhere else. I run my husband to bed at night when he finally falls asleep in his recliner watching the ballgame so that I can turn the sound down and get busy writing. He very often will say that he just wants to lay there and let the noise play in the background. That’s not conducive to writing at all.

I do have an office, but it’s so unorganized that I can’t get anything done in there. My kids tend to take it over and their paperwork, crayons, photos, etc, end up on all the livable spaces. I don’t know why it is, but there’s nothing that makes my kids want to spend time with me more than my closed office door. It’s like a “come and bug me” beacon for my six year old. I can almost hear it in his head. Door’s closed. Wonder what Mom’s doing? I better go check. And I think I’m hungry. But I don’t know what I want. Maybe she can tell me. I’ll just go ask her. Maybe she’ll know if I want a bologna sandwich or if I want her attention. Yeah, welcome to my life. For some reason, my closed office door makes my fifteen year old decide he needs to schedule his day right at that moment. Wonder if Mom has anything planned for tomorrow. I really want to see my girlfriend. Wonder if she’ll make me clean the kitchen before we can go pick her up. Of course, I will! Interrupt my writing time and I might include a toilet or two in his cleaning routine, just for the fun of it.

Hello again! We are so excited to introduce you to the main characters of our latest release The Taming of the Wolf. Each of these characters has been introduced in a previous book or two, so they aren’t completely new.

Dashiel Thorpe, Earl of Brimsworth

Dash is our first reformed villain. He reminds me a lot of the Jessica Rabbit comment “I’m not bad, I’m just drawn that way.” When we decided to write another book with him as one of the main characters, a couple of our critique partners didn’t think he was redeemable. I am happy to report that Dash won each and every one of them over.


He is a lone werewolf in a lot of ways. Until recently, he thought he was an anomaly and had no idea there were others like him in the world. So at the beginning of The Taming of the Wolf, he is determined to reform his villainous ways by being properly trained by a Lycan mentor. But before Dash can even embark on his new life, he is powerless to resist the power of the full moon and claims a Scottish lass to whom he hasn’t even been introduced.


Alec MacQuarrie
First introduced in Tall, Dark and Wolfish


Alec MacQuarrie was first introduced as the best friend of one of the Westfield brothers. He is handsome and honorable. And he has been in love with Caitrin Macleod for more years than he can remember. Unfortunately, he’s heard her say she didn’t “see” a future for them one too many times and the rejection sent him south of the border to England, with hopes of mending his broken heart. Recently he’s begun to suspect that Cait is the seer of a mystical coven and he is determined to make his own fate where she’s concerned.


Caitrin Macleod
First introduced in Tall, Dark and Wolfish; also seen in The Wolf Next Door


Cait is the leader of a mystical Scottish coven. As a powerful clairvoyant, she is often plagued with the visions of unwanted futures of anyone she happens upon. Until one fateful night when she stumbles across a handsome stranger for whom she cannot see a future at all. Cait is a headstrong lass who is loyal and to her family and coven sisters. After learning some disturbing truths about her late mother, Cait is determined to never misuse her powers and to follow the course of predetermined fate. She suddenly finds herself caught in the middle of two very different men. Unfortunately, she doesn’t see a future for herself with either man.
